The Fluval FX5 pump is on the bottom of the canister filter, so there is NO need to prime.The input and output connectors to and from the canister filter are angled at 45 degrees for easy positioning. The output nozzle actually has two nozzles so you can direct the flow two different directions. Each can be rotated 360 degrees. The Fluval FX5 high performance canister filter has a Purge Valve, so any debris stuck at the bottom of the canister can be drained. A revolutionary computer chip is installed with the Fluval FX5 pump so that every 24 hours, the aquarium filter shuts off for about 2 minutes; allowing all of the gases that have collected to rise to the top and then escape.
